The MoCo border
The home page introduces the MoCo border: useful sentence-building components that stay consistent across nearly every page in the system, so the frame around your words never changes.
Pilot We are proud to announce the pilot of the MoCo-60 grid is available now!
Model Communicator (MoCo) is built around topics, making it easy to use and model relevant core and fringe vocabulary during everyday routines and activities.
Free on iPad and in Chrome, or use it right here in any browser.
Everything in MoCo is organized around topics, so the words you need for a routine or activity are together, and easy to get to. Here's how it fits together.
The home page introduces the MoCo border: useful sentence-building components that stay consistent across nearly every page in the system, so the frame around your words never changes.
From home, you'll find high-impact topic pages, pages for specific word types, and quick access to high-frequency action and description subpages.
Choosing a topic opens a main page filled with relevant fringe vocabulary: the specific words that make that topic come alive.
Most topics include Actions and Descriptions subpages: relevant verbs and adjectives, sitting alongside core vocabulary that stays consistent across every subpage.
As you explore, check the upper right-hand corner for suggested synonyms: alternate words to sharpen or vary what you’re saying.
The right-hand sidebar suggests grammatical forms of a word, so tense and ending fall into place as you build a sentence.

Kara is a speech-language pathologist and Assistive Technology Specialist with a focus on Augmentative and Alternative Communication, and has taught graduate-level adjunct classes in AAC. She built Model Communicator because she grew tired of watching firsthand as budget constraints prevented people from accessing the tools they need to communicate. Kara brings deep clinical expertise in AAC and communication disorders, ensuring Model Communicator meets the real-world needs of communicators and their support teams.
